You have to wonder what Weight Watchers was thinking when they selected Charles Barkley as the new poster boy and role model in their latest promotion targeting men. Talk about starting the new year out with a bang! What more could a marketing team ask for? Charles Barkley quickly became the talk of the Internet but for reasons other than the fact that he had trimmed down a bit. Once again, it was his antics that grabbed the spotlight. It was only a matter of time before the former NBA superstar and budding golfer would stick his foot in his mouth, and that he did!
During a live broadcast of an NBA game featuring the Atlanta Hawks, Charles Barkley made one of the biggest blunders in television history by referring to his new source of income, Weight Watchers, as a scam. I had the video embedded on a couple of blogs but the NBA has claimed copyright on the video so it no longer works. Therefore it has been removed and replaced with commentary on this historical (or should I say hysterical) event.
Speaking your mind is one thing, but with the mic on, are you serious? I wish I could have been there when the CEO of Weight Watchers first heard C.B. refer to “this Weight Watchers deal as an even bigger scam than talking about basketball!” Now that’s entertainment!
My guess is that you have stumbled up Yesterdays Fat Guy looking for information on Weight Watchers, Charles Barkley or both so I will do my best not to disappoint. Weight Watchers has been in our family from as far back as I remember and, even today, my mom is still a member. To me, that speaks volumes in regards to Weight Watchers, and no, not because Mom is still there because it didn’t work
! Mom is still there because there’s more to Weight Watchers than just weight loss.
The Charles Barkley Weight Loss Scam Commentary
What does my mom still being in Weight Watchers have to do with being a guy? It’s not so much about who is there but WHY she is still there. Weight Watchers is as much about support and connection with others as it is about anything else. It’s probably one of, if not the most, social based weight loss programs in existence. One of the reasons why Weight Watchers works so well for men and women is because of the accountability.
The other things Weight Watchers has going for it is their points system. To be honest, when I first used it years ago I was not fan. However, over the years my mind has changed simply because it allows guys to eat guy food and still get the results they are looking for.
All of this being said, there is another element to weight loss that must be embraced for the complete transformation to take place. In order to have success with any weight loss program, including Weight Watchers, your mind and your body must be on the same page. If they are not then it will be very difficult to get results and then keep those same results.
Your diet, when it comes to weight loss, becomes a lifestyle, not a restriction. If you see your diet as a restriction you will build a resistance to it. Say yes, welcome and embrace your new diet. Welcome the fact that, with Weight Watchers, you can eat what you want. Don’t see it as NOT being able to eat as much as you want look at it as YOU CAN eat the foods you like and still transform your body.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it as long as I continue to write… get your mind right and your body will follow!
Have an awesome day!
